Mineral procsessing aids
Amidoamines from fatty acids and ethylene amines can be used for the processing of minerals such as nickel and clay. The surfactant preferably adheres to silica particles that can be removed by floatation.
The DETA or TETA are diluted with water prior to use. Their function is to adhere and form complexes at the surface of the nickel ore particles and thereby changing their surface properties and consequently their behaviour in flotation properties.
Besides nickel, aqueous solutions of the Polyethyleneamines can also be applied in the processing of clay slurries, one of the steps towards a final product. Clays are minerals which are found in large deposits in various parts of the world. Kaolinite clays are used for a variety of products. A major outlet is as a filler for paper and cardboard.
